MUCH of what we know about ourselves, (as well as others) these days is stored outside of our realm of 'influence'.
Think about these things: - your airline flight, bank or investment portfolio / account data, medical records, phone-history, mortgage data, driving history, arrest-history, are ALL stored outside us having 'control' over that data; someone ELSE has control over that data, DO WE TRUST THEM? In the "PAST" these items were stored ONLY by people we trust, now they are stored by people we do not even know, much less trust...
Furthermore - is / are the patent and trade-mark laws (we live in the USA (patents and trademarks are the under-pining of our societal laws, what about other countries?) - that 'data' is based on 'theories' and 'concepts' developed in the 1800s and 1900s - is that foundation information for those things still valid in today's digital world where a 'copy' is a mouse-click-away?
Think about one more thing: - In the 'past' when people hand-copied information about bills in the US-congress that had to be 'ratified' by all 'states' - (and that hand-copying-process (analog, not digital) was 'prone to error' -
WHO HAD THE AUTHORITY and the RESPONSIBILITY to validate / verify that state 'x' 'ratified' the same bill as state 'y'
- who evaluated if the capitalization, punctuation, 'meaning' in that copied document 'matched' the 'original - therefore did all states ratify the same bill?
The 'digital' age we now live in (and it will get more digital as time goes on) - is a LOT DIFFERENT than the analog age we are leaving behind. However, MUCH of our legal system is based on the analog days - concepts - foundations - does the / those analog documents / foundations 'make sense' in our digital world
